World Breastfeeding Week 2019: an interim update

During the first week in August, we celebrated World Breastfeeding Week with many partnering organisations and supporters. World Breastfeeding Week is a campaign organised by the World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action (Waba). It is considered one of the largest joint campaigns of international organisations such as WHO and Unicef of that kind, promoting the benefits of breastfeeding. World Breastfeeding Week has been celebrated annually in about 120 countries since 1991.  For four years, EFCNI has been actively supporting and participating in World Breastfeeding Week with own awareness campaigns. For this year’s campaign, we circulated a survey, asking mothers and experts in the field of nutrition for their input in regards to breastfeeding challenges and which kind of support significantly helps to enable breastfeeding. The answers were evaluated and visualised in a campaign poster. We were thrilled about the feedback we received: About 380 participants contributed to the poster by joining our survey! We would like to express our thanks to each and everyone participating as well as to those who shared the poster and the immensely important message: Empower parents, enable breastfeeding!

Also,  two experts joined our initiative and shared valuable advice, experience and their personal message. Our thanks go to Professor Mary Fewtrell and Ragnhild Maastrup RN, PhD, IBCLC.

World Breastfeeding Week is not over yet! Some countries will celebrate in October and November. We hence invite you to keep supporting this initiative by downloading the poster and our expert statements and using them for your social media breastfeeding campaign!
