We are so pleased to hear that our partner organisation in Romania, Asociatia Prematurilor (The Romanian Association of Premature Babies), has been awarded the Civil Solidarity Prize by the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC). Congratulations for this well-deserved recognition of your hard work!
Asociatia Prematurilor received the prize as well as 10,000 Euros in prize money for its project “Support for Medical Staff and Newborns in Maternity – Protective Equipment and Apparatus Against COVID-19 in Maternity Wards”. As part of the project, Asociatia Prematurilor donated equipment and protective gear to six neonatological wards across Romania which were particularly struggling to cope with the global COVID-19 pandemic. Their work benefited over 100 medical professionals as well as over 4,000 parents and their newborns
The EESC selected Asociatia Prematurilor as well as 22 other winning projects out of 250 applicants from 27 countries. In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, the EESC decided to lay the focus this year on not-for-profit initiatives tackling the COVID-19 crisis and its effects on civil society and rewarded projects which took on social responsibility and showed solidarity and courage.
Congratulations to our friends at the organisation – we are so proud to have you in our network! Thank you for making a difference for babies born too soon or too ill and their families.
