Resuscitation of preterm infants

Neonatal resuscitation is required in babies that are not able to breathe independently after birth. If a newborn cannot breathe independently immediately after birth, the baby is at risk of birth asphyxia which can cause serious brain injury and even death. The leading risk factor for babies needing resuscitation is preterm birth. The European Resuscitation Guidelines are widely recognised as providing a good practice framework for healthcare professionals on how to approach resuscitation.
